Formation
Grâce à sa participation au concours de Miss Colorado Universe, Pam Grier se fait remarquer et décroche un petit rôle dans une comédie érotique, Hollywood vixens/orgissimo (Beyond the valley of the dolls, Russ Meyer, 1970).
Carrière au cinéma
Dans les années 1970, Pam Grier est l'égérie du courant afro-américain "Blaxploitation". Dans Coffy (Jack Hill, 1973), elle tient le premier rôle : une nurse protégeant sa soeur de dangereux dealers. En 1981, dans Le policeman (Daniel Petrie), elle incarne une prostituée prisonnière de la drogue. Dans Above the law (Andrew Davis, 1988), elle donne la réplique à Steven Seagal et Sharon Stone. En 1997, Quentin Tarantino lui confie le rôle-titre de Jackie Brown.
Autres activités
Depuis le début des années 1980, elle est présente dans des séries à la télévision américaine.
