Formation
Après ses études à l'université de Zurich, Curt Siodmak commence une carrière de journaliste avant de faire ses débuts au cinéma comme figurant dans Metropolis, de Fritz Lang (1927), puis comme coscénariste à Berlin.
Carrière au cinéma
Parallèlement à la carrière de réalisateur de son frère Robert, Curt Siodmak se fait un prénom dans l'écriture de scénarios. Après une première collaboration au script des Hommes du dimanche (Robert Siodmak, 1929) avec Billy Wilder, il part travailler en 1934 en France, puis en Grande-Bretagne. C'est l'époque où l'Allemagne assiste à l'avènement du nazisme et au départ de nombre d'intellectuels et d'artistes. En 1938, Siodmak émigre à son tour aux Etats-Unis et s'y spécialise dans la rédaction de scénarios de films d'horreur ou fantastiques. Il signe les scripts de plusieurs séries B, dont certaines réalisées par son frère Robert (The Son of Dracula, 1943). Il se distingue également en signant deux scénarios mis en scène par JacquesTourneur, Vaudou (1943) et Berlin Express (1948). Au début des années 1950, il passe à la réalisation, toujours dans le genre fantastique, mais avec moins de succès. Il réalise notamment The Bride of the gorilla (1951), The Magnetic monster (1953) et The Devil's messenger (1961). En 1967, il termine un dernier long métrage allemand, Liebesspiel im Schnee (1966), distribué aux Etats-Unis en 1969 sous le titre Sky fever.
Autres activités
Curt Siodmak réalise quelques films pour la télévision. Il est l'auteur de romans d'horreur, dont Le Cerveau du nabab, adapté à l'écran à trois reprises : The Lady and the monster (George Sherman, 1943); Donovan's brain (Felix E. Feist, 1953); Vengeance (Freedie Francis, 1964).
