Formation
Lucille Ball suit des cours d'art dramatique à l'école de John Murray Anderson. Elle commence sa carrière dans les théâtres de Broadway.
Carrière au cinéma
Actrice à part, Lucille Ball est considérée comme une spécialiste de la comédie burlesque et comme l'une des rares femmes clowns du cinéma américain. Partenaire de Fred Astaire dans En suivant la flotte (Mark Sandrich,1936), avec les Marx Brothers dans Panique à l'hôtel (William A. Seiter,1938), mais aussi de Katharine Hepburn et de Ginger Rogers dans Stage door (Gregory La Cava,1937), Lucille Ball obtient son premier rôle principal dans The affairs of Annabel (Benjamin Stoloff, 1938) Douée pour le comique, elle devient dès lors l'héroïne de nombreuses comédies (Miss Grant takes Richmond, Lloyd Bacon, 1949). Aussi, rares sont ses apparitions dans des films dramatiques (L'impasse tragique, Henry Hathaway, 1946).
Autres activités
Dans les années 1950, Lucille Ball devient la vedette d'un show télévisé, I love Lucy.
